Patagonia Spring 2011 digital catalog/magazine

April 6, 2011

The new Spring 2011 Patagonia digital catalog celebrates The Surfer’s Journal’s 20th anniversary. The catalog is a beautiful, multimedia experience with juicy, surfy photos, embedded videos & podcasts, and links to download pdf’s of archived TSJ articles.

Patagonia and The Surfer’s Journal are two of my favorite surf-related purveyors. They’re both a little pricey, but head and shoulders above the competition in terms of quality. I’m an avid subscriber to TSJ and I wish there were some way to continue receiving my bimonthly issues while we’re on the road. I’ve been salivating over Patagonia’s wetsuits for the last few years but haven’t worn out my O’Neill models beyond repair yet. I have, however, bought a couple of Patagonia bikinis for our 2-year surf trip. Look forward to seeing whether they stay in place in waves of consequence.

If you haven’t tried out either company’s products, I highly recommend doing so.

On dreams

If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.

Hello world!

March 29, 2011

This seems like a good day to start our blog. We just returned home from the travel doctor, getting the one jab we decided we needed for our 22-month round-the-world surf trip. Up to now, the steps we’ve taken towards our goal of embarking on this surf trip have been mainly slow and steady. Somehow, getting a needle in the arm acts as a wake-up call that we are really doing it!

We ended up getting an injected vaccine against yellow fever, since it’s the one that is required for entry into Senegal. We also got the live typhoid vaccine, which pleasantly comes in the form of pills. The less needles the better. The live typhoid vaccine also has the advantage of being good for 5 years versus the 2 years of an injected, inactivated vaccine.

So there it is! It’s out in the open. In three months, we will be leaving for a 22-month long surf trip through 6 continents and (currently the plan is) 15 countries. This trip has been a long time in the making. Depending on what you would consider the beginnings of the plan, it may all have started 5 months ago, 3 years ago, or even 15 years ago. The main point is that we have been dreaming about undertaking an adventure like this for a while, and we are on the brink of making it happen. Blast-off is in 98 days!

There are so many things we’ve learned and discovered along the path leading up to our round-the-world adventure, and we started this blog in order to share these discoveries and lessons with others dreaming of following a similar path. We also can’t wait to share the lessons and observations gleaned during the voyage itself, once it starts.

We’ll be posting in the near future about our who, what, why, when, where and how. We are so excited to share this journey, and the journey leading up to the journey, with you!
